Music
comes from the Greek word “mousike” that means “art of the Muses”. According to
Wikipedia, music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. For me,
music is any sound that can be hear whether appreciated or not by any.
Music is
present at the whole world. It is because most people, if not all, loves to
hear music, but have you asked yourself how music really influence and affect
people.
MUSIC
AFFECTS EMOTION
When we
watched movies or programs on television, we can notice that these are
accompanied by sound effects, musical score and theme songs. Obviously, because
it give better emotions needed on every scene. When the scene is sad, there
will be a lonely song playing along so it would catch the emotions of the
viewers, and there will be an appropriate music for every scene.
We felt
like in love when we hear music that is lovely or that triggers our emotion to
be in love. When the beat of the music is fast we feel like hyper or energize.
It feels like sleepy and boring when the melody is slow. Love song makes us
more sentimental and romantic. Christian songs uplift our spirits. We feel calm
when we hear music that soothes our ears while vehicle engines and loud sounds
of horns in the streets tend to makes us uncomfortable and impatient.
Oftentimes our mood depends on the music we hear on our surroundings.

AFFECTS PERFORMANCE
According
to some research and studies, people who are more expose to good music has
better reading ability, higher social skills and better focus and commitment.
People who loves to listen to music improves their memorizing skills. They also
become more attentive and alert. While children who play music instruments do
better on standardized test compare to those who don’t.
On the
negative side, music also affects on bad way. Too loud music can damage the
ears of the listener and can reduced performance. Exposure to harsh music may
lead to learning disabilities especially to children. According to some
articles I have read, disharmony in music has been shown to reduce retention
levels of the brain and lead to hyperactivity.
Music has
a big effect on the mind of a person. Soothing music calms a person, thus, it
helps fight depression and relieves anxiety.
Music
therapy is a process that uses music through the help of music therapist to
help patients or clients to maintain or improve their health. Music therapy is
considered an alternative medicine and has a lot of benefits and uses. It is
recommended on people with high blood pressure, heart diseases, cancer and a
lot more. It is also beneficial to patients of autism as it helps patients to
learn to express themselves and improve their speech ability. Music therapist,
just like other alternative therapists are now easily found.
On the other hand,
endorphin is a kind of protein that helps in speeding the process of healing.
Music helps on secretion of endorphin in our body so we can easily recover from
pain and suffering. It also gives hope to sick people.
Music has
a wide contribution on helping to cure ailments and so does a big role in every
human. Music really affects people a lot.
